Surprise legacy for Friends of Moorfields

Friends of Moorfields are very happy to be the recipients of a £200k legacy, as part of a £1.4 million fortune shared between four charities in a will.

Hilda Levi left her entire estate to charitable causes, including Friends of Moorfields. Her incredible gift came to light recently and revealed her life story – after coming to the UK as a Jewish refugee in the 1930s, Hilda was adopted into a British family, attended secretarial college, and spent much of her life living in Whitstable. Hilda’s will was made in 1982, leaving sums to Friends of Moorfields and three charities based in or near Whitstable.

“We’re incredibly grateful for this unexpected legacy,” said Friends of Moorfields chief executive Angela Smith. “We’re not sure what Hilda’s connection was to Moorfields, but we’re so glad to have made a big enough impression to be remembered in her will. This generous sum will go towards our vital work supporting patients and staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.”
