We manage a team of almost 300 volunteers across several sites, providing a range of services to patients and supporting teams throughout the Trust. Our volunteers do everything from welcoming and guiding visitors to accompanying patients during surgery.

Our Health Information Hub at Moorfields City Road has two members of staff, as well as a dedicated and specially trained volunteer team, providing accessible, non-medical, Moorfields-approved information, signposting and support for patients and carers.

We also award regular grants to Moorfields to fund certain staff posts, as well as projects that improve the patient experience – for example by reducing waiting times, speeding up treatments, or by providing a more comfortable and friendly environment.

Friends sponsor The Moorfields Art Committee, which provides weekly music recitals in the hospital, as well as revolving art exhibitions designed either for or by visually impaired people. We also pay for the maintenance of the aquariums and flower beds.

“My very first post at Moorfields was part funded by The Friends of Moorfields. It was an essential step in my evolution as a glaucoma specialist and I am very grateful for what Friends’ have done for me and my colleagues. Friends’ support really is a vital part of what keeps us going.”
