Vicki Griggs, play specialist, writes a book about her sight loss and working at Moorfields

Vicki Griggs, a Play Specialist at the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre, has written a book, Vis-Ability, about her sight loss and working at Moorfields.

On Friday 28 February, she launched her book at City Road in the health information hub – to coincide with Rare Diseases Day.
At the age of four, Vicki was diagnosed with a rare eye condition – the book introduces readers to Vicki in her early years when she made the decision to have a prosthetic eye fitted at the age of 13. Following this, Vicki faced further problems with her other eye, dealing with chronic pain and a rare genetic eye disease.
Speaking about her book, Vicki said:
I wrote this book because I feel that in general, there is a misunderstanding of the definition of ‘vision impairment’ and it’s my goal to correct this. I feel that it is my purpose in life to raise awareness of vision impairment through telling my story of living with a disability that is invisible to the public eye.”
