Volunteer Spotlight: 15 years and counting
23rd April, 2024
Our volunteer Eve talks about her varied experiences with us, from phone support to baking.
I have been a volunteer for 15 years and have loved every moment. We have so much to thank Moorfields for after my son received the most amazing treatment following a horrible accident 45 years ago. I always said I would volunteer when I was in a position to be able to help, and I did. More recently my grandson has had wonderful care at Moorfields too.
I work in the Friends Shop at Moorfields City Road every Tuesday, and I love it. I sell snacks, drinks, magazines, aids for the visually impaired and various donated goods. The shelves need to be constantly restocked, and customers often need help with their purchases or a little chat.
I also call patients to remind them of their appointments about two days a week. I really enjoy speaking to patients, and they are mostly very appreciative of the call. I have made some cakes for various events as well.
I love helping people and really enjoy being part of the volunteer family, which is full of kindness. When I started to volunteer at Moorfields I just wanted to give something back to the hospital. I had absolutely no idea that I would get so much from it too. It has really enriched my life in a way I never expected.
