World-class eye health centre in London named
25th March, 2026
We are excited to share that name of the new, world-class centre for eye care, research and education will be ‘The Moorfields and UCL Centre for Eye Health’

This is a name that recognises the powerful partnership between Moorfields Eye Hospital, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity. Friends of Moorfields has been a proud supporter and with your help we have contributed £1million to the project.
The name of the centre describes the partnership, emphasising collaboration and the combined expertise of the partners involved. Harnessing the expertise of clinicians and researchers under one roof, the centre will deliver the highest quality eye care, research, and education. With state-of-the-art facilities, patients will have access to more efficient treatments, as well as being able to take part in research more easily.
We will all continue to operate with our individual brands; Moorfields and UCL Centre for Eye Health is the building name only. This is an important milestone for the new centre that will serve communities for generations to come.
Friends support has helped turn a bold vision into a tangible reality and stands as a testament to what collaboration and philanthropy can accomplish together to achieve world-leading innovation and research in eye health. Designed with patients and sight loss organisations, the centre will offer state-of-the-art facilities, more efficient treatments and greater opportunities to take part in research. It will also include welcoming spaces for staff, volunteers and students to collaborate, recharge and innovate, including a roof garden.
