Friends of Moorfields at the House of Lords

On 26 October we celebrated our new Volunteer to Career programme with an afternoon tea at the House of Lords, kindly hosted for us by our patron, Baroness Cumberlege.
Guests attended from the House of Lords, House of Commons, local government and our partner organisations, including Moorfields Eye Charity and Helpforce. They had the opportunity to mingle and chat with our staff, trustees and volunteers, as well as Moorfields staff and former volunteers who’ve benefitted from the experience they gained with us and moved on to study nursing and medicine, or gone on to careers at Moorfields and elsewhere in the NHS.
After a warm welcome from Baroness Cumberlege, guests heard from Tim Hutchings, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Friends of Moorfields, our CEO Angela Smith, and Martin Kuper, Chief Executive at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – who all shared their perspectives on the value our volunteers bring to the Trust, the uniqueness of what we do and the way Volunteer to Career can help us take our work even further.

Our Volunteer to Career programme, which is made possible by a £25k award from Health Education England and supported by Helpforce, is now in full swing, with volunteers working in placements throughout Moorfields to gain skills, experience and insights into the career possibilities available to them in the NHS.
